Great-niece of Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Silvia Boadella, PhD, is a writer and psychotherapist. Born in 1948, she grew up in Basel, Switzerland. She studied philosophy, literature, psychology and art history in Basel and then at the University of Tübingen, where she received a Ph.D. in philosophy.

She was a guest professor for four years at the University of Kanazawa, Japan, where she also trained in Buto-dance with Kazuo Ohno. She then lectured in philosophy at the Goethe Institute in New Delhi, before studying somatic psychotherapy.

Since 1985 she has developed, together with her husband, David Boadella, the psychotherapeutic method of Biosynthesis, which, following the training courses they co-lead, is now widely practiced internationally. She directs the International Institute for Biosynthesis (Switzerland), where she teaches her own combination of art, therapy and dance. She has served as co-editor of the journal Energy & Character and regularly lectures at international congresses.
